“Then Feed Just One” Volunteers Package Over 83,800 Meals

When many hands volunteer, great jobs get accomplished.

"Then Feed Just One" brought out over 260 volunteers last Wednesday. They gathered at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds, put on caps and gloves, and packed 83,808 meals. These meals will be sent around the world to help fight world hunger.

VOLUNTEERS from across Palo Alto County gathered at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds last week to package meals to help feed the needy around the world. They worked in shifts from 4 to 8 p.m. measuring and pouring highly nutritious ingredients into packages. This year, volunteers packaged 83,808 meals. The pallets of 388 boxes will be shipped by the Dole Company to Honduras in Central America. Palo Alto County volunteers have participated in Then Feed Just One packing day since 2012. Volunteers came from churches including parishioners and youth group members from Holy Family Church, First United Methodist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, and Trinity Episcopal Church, in Emmetsburg, and Immaculate Conception Church in Graettinger; and reached across the community. Teams of volunteers came from Kiwanis Club, Wells Fargo Bank, Boy Scouts, and Dr.?Reedy's teams. Student athletes filled the later shifts and stayed to help clean up the building.

Between 4 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, over 260 volunteers packed the 83,808 meals. There are 216 meals in each box, and 388 boxes were filled last week.
