The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks put together another strong finish during Regional Semi-Final play on Thursday night, Oct. 31, taking down Pocahontas Area in a 3-1 battle.

Emmetsburg hit the ground running during the first match, scoring early and staying on top to finish with a score of 25-20. The Indians would find their rhythm in the second set, however, taking advantage of an early scoring streak to best the black-and-gold, 25-14. The Lady E-Hawks would mount an aggressive attack to take back control of the game in a 25-20 third set win. In the fourth and final match of the night, the E-Hawks and Indians would trade points and leads throughout the contest, until the E-Hawks would again put up a defensive stand to take the win, 25-22.

THE KILL - Abbie Schany hammers home a point for the Lady E-Hawks during Regional Semi-Finals on Thursday.

"We did a great job being aggressive at the net," said Head Coach Missy Birkey.

Senior Molly Schany and cousin Abbie Schany, a junior, led the Emmetsburg net attack, each with 48 attacks on the night. Molly added 17 more kills to her outstanding record, bringing the total to 1,058 career kills, while Abbie racked up 13 kills of her own.

Junior Macy McAllister had 26 attacks with eight kills and Senior Gretchen Hofstad had 20 attacks and five kills against Pocahontas Area.

"We were also able to serve the ball well which got the Indians out of system. Having 11 aces on the night meant we served the ball really aggressively and that is what we worked for."

Sophomore Raegan Swanson served 18 for 19 on the night and nailed six of Emmetsburg's 11 aces. Senior Savannah Wolff served 20 for 21 with an ace, senior Heidi Malm served a perfect 13 for 13 with one ace, Hofstad served a perfect 12 for 12 with an ace, Molly Schany served up nine of 12 with two aces, and senior Lindsay Carter went a perfect nine for nine on serves.

With the win, the 20-11 Lady E-Hawks advance to the Regional Championships on Tuesday, Nov. 5, facing 35-6 Osage.

"In preparation for Osage, we know they have some big hitters that we need to stop on the outside," said Coach Birkey.

"Having our defense ready to go and on their toes so they can move to the ball is going to be key. We are also going to have to take advantage of the free balls that are sent over the net. We are going to continue to serve aggressively and force them to make good passes."

The Regional Championship will start at 7:00 p.m. at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School in Garner.
