The 2019 volleyball season came to an end for the Lady E-Hawks at the Class 2A Regional Championship in Garner on Tuesday, Nov. 5, after a 0-3 loss to a tough Osage Green Devil squad.

The 36-6 Green Devils would overpower the young Emmetsburg netters, finding success in an early scoring streak through a powerful net attack from the junior duo of Danielle Johnson and Paige Kisley and never letting up, winning the best of five in three consecutive matches with scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-10.

The Lady E-Hawks finish their season with an admirable record of 10-1 in conference play, 20-12 overall, ranked second in the Twin Lakes Conference (TLC).

"The girls did a great job battling all year long," said Head Coach Missy Birkey. "They were a great group that provided leadership and worked hard at every practice. Making it to the regional final was a big accomplishment!"

Among the season's accomplishments, senior Molly Schany has been named First Team All-Conference. Schany ends her senior season with over 380 kills, with well over 1,000 career kills to date. On Sept. 24, Schany set a TLC single match record of 24 kills in Emmetsburg's 3-0 win over Alta-Aurelia.

Teammate and cousin Abbie Schany, a junior, has been named Second Team All-Conference. Abbie put up 220 kills this season, with over 438 high school kills so far.

Senior Gretchen Hofstad was named Third Team All-Conference for 2019. Hofstad was unable to compete in last week's Regional Championship against Osage due to an emergency appendectomy after a burst appendix. Hofstad led the Lady E-Hawks in assists this season, putting up 570, fourth in the TLC.

Emmetsburg volleyball will lose seven of its seniors to graduation at the end of the year: Lindsay Carter, Savannah Wolff, Gretchen Hofstad, Morgan Jamison, Molly Schany, Heidi Malm, and Rebecca Licht.

"We will really miss these seven seniors and their leadership," said Coach Birkey, "but they left a mark on the E-Hawk volleyball program. They should all be very proud of their accomplishments."
