Funeral service for O. Mardell Truog of Emmetsburg is Saturday, Nov. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Olga Mardell Truog, daughter of Clelland and Ellen (Rouse) Darr, was born Nov. 23, 1937 in Ayrshire. She received her education in Mallard, gradu- ating from Mallard High School.

On June 12, 1955 Mardell was united in marriage to Wayne F. Truog at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. To this union three children were born.

Mardell was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked outside the home at S.N.C. in Emmetsburg for several years.

Mardell was a very talented seamstress and loved sewing, making several quilts for family and friends. She was active in a sewing club that traveled around the area to various quilt and fabric shops. She taught her granddaughters to sew and crochet. Mardell also made and decorated cakes for weddings, graduations, as well as other events. She enjoyed watching basketball as she had played basketball while in high school. Mardell loved every moment she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mardell passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 at her home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; son, Keith Truog; daughter-in-law, Vicki Truog; and a brother, Richard Darr.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Wynn and her husband, Rick of Little Elm, TX and Becky Goeders of Mallard; ten grandchildren, Nytasha Truog of Emmetsburg, Jamie Kompelien (Adam) of Cottonwood, MN, Jeremy Truog of Curlew, Heather Angel (Nathan) of Little Elm, TX, Eric Muller (Jenna) of Little Elm, TX, Dawn Beving (Tyler) of Emmetsburg, Ashley Goeders of Cylinder, Brandi Allen (Pat) of Emmetsburg, Travis Goeders (Taylor) of West Bend, and Corey Goeders of Mallard; 29 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Dennie Darr (Shirley) of Rushford, MN and Darrell Darr (Sharon) of Dodge Center, MN; two sisters, Virginia Ritchey (Tom) of Andover, MN and Shari Gibbs (Dick) of Wynantskill, NY; sister-in-law, Jane Peters of Emmetsburg; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
