"The girls played really hard against Cherokee," said Head Coach Annie Fiene. "We knew they would come out with a lot of intensity and we matched it. We didn't execute well at crucial times and felt that we lost out on 50/50 balls that we had our hands on but didn't finish."

The Lady E-Hawks kept pace with the Braves throughout the first half of play, trailing by just three points at halftime, 17-20. After the break, the girls hit the court running, carrying their momentum into the final minutes of play and outscoring Cherokee 16-13 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 46. In overtime, the Braves would edge out the Lady E-Hawks to take the win.

Emmetsburg struggled from the 3-point line during the contest, sinking just one of 13 attempts on the night. However, the Lady E-Hawks fought their way into 36 rebounds under the net, controlling possession and control of the ball.

"We took good care of the ball and cut our turnovers by over half from last year," said Coach Fiene.

Senior Molly Schany led the girls in points, putting up 21 of Emmetsburg's 55 total points. Schany hit three of four at the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds. Junior Abbie Schany added 13 points to the board, sinking seven of 13 at the free throw line and snatching eight rebounds for the Lady E-Hawks.

Senior Lindsay Carter hit Emmetsburg's only 3-pointer, putting up seven total points during the contest.

On Friday, Dec. 6, the Lady E-Hawks traveled to Ruthven High School to battle the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans, dominating the court in a 51-15 victory.

"We needed to do things right in order to be successful against GTRA," said Coach Fiene. "We worked really hard to finish plays in preparation and we executed well."

The Lady E-Hawks would score early and often, outscoring the Titans 31-6 by halftime. The 35-point Mercy Rule took effect early in the third quarter, activating the continuous clock as Emmetsburg would score another 20 points to the Titan's nine to finish out the game.

Defensively, Emmetsburg controlled the ball under the net, winning the rebound battle with 17 rebounds to the Titan's two offensive grabs. Offensively, the Lady E-Hawks hit three 3-point shots out of 21 attempts and made eight of 11 at the free throw line.

Scoring was spread across the entire team, with Abbie Schany leading the charge with nine points, including a 3-point shot and six points from the free throw line. Molly Schany put up eight points and grabbed 10 of Emmetsburg's rebounds. Junior Makenzie King added seven points to the scoreboard, including a 3-point shot, while junior Maddy Mueller and senior Raven Brown each scored six points. Sophomore Raegan Swanson hit Emmetsburg's third 3-point shot of the game and put up five total points.

The Lady E-Hawks will have played their next game on Monday night, Dec. 9, taking on the Spencer Tigers at Emmetsburg High School. Details will follow in this Thursday's Democrat.
