Area Dance Teams Compete at ISDTA State Dance Championship

Dance teams from Emmetsburg, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, and West Bend-Mallard travelled to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to compete in the 2020 Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association (ISDTA) State Dance Championship on Thursday, Dec. 5 and Friday, Dec. 6.

The competition featured team and solo dance performances from student athletes across Iowa.

Emmetsburg

Hawkettes

The Emmetsburg Hawkettes competed in two events, performing routines in the Class III Jazz and Class VII Pom competitions.

The young women placed eighth in Jazz and and earned seventh in Pom.

The team also earned a Division I rating in each event.

An average judge's score between 75-100 points results in a Division I rating.

Titannettes

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titannette dancers competed in two events, performing a hip hop routine to "Salute" in the Class I Hip Hop division and a first-year hoopla routine to "Danger Zone" in the Small School Hoopla category.

The Titannettes earned second place in Hip Hop and third place in Hoopla, earning Division I ratings for both routines.

West Bend-Mallard

Pacesetters

The Pacesetters from West Bend-Mallard competed in the Small School Military category and performed a routine in Class I Pom.

In the Pom competition, the Pacesetters took home top honors, receiving first place overall out of twelve competing schools, and earned a Division I rating. The team earned fifth place and a Division I for their Small School Military routine.

The Pacesetters also received the Distinguished Academic Award, awarded to teams with athletes maintaining a GPA between 3.5 - 4.0.
