E-Hawks Continue Dual Winning Streak, Place Third at Don Miller Invitational

The E-Hawk fans in attendance at Emmetsburg High School on Thursday night, Dec. 19, enjoyed an exciting finish to a dual matchup against Western Christian and Spencer, as Lucas Carter fought his way to a 6-4 decision over Spencer's Kage Lohman to secure the E-Hawk 33-26 victory over the Tigers. Handily defeating Western Christian 69-12 earlier in the evening, the wins bring the E-Hawks to 9-0 in dual competition.

Don Miller Invitational

On Saturday, the E-Hawk wrestling squad traveled to Fort Dodge to compete in the Don Miller Invitational. Emmetsburg would earn third place on the day, with Ankeny Centennial in second and Fort Dodge receiving top honors.

Leading the mat attack for the grapplers was Matt Wirtz, who earned the top spot at 182 pounds. Wirtz (15-5) defeated Truman Klein of Webster City with a 0:56 pin in the quarterfinal, brought down Dillion Woods of Lewis Central Council Bluffs in a 1:02 win by fall, and won the first place match in a 9-6 decision to grab the title.

Second place honors on the day went to Sean Brennan (16-3) at 132 pounds, Bret Hoyman (17-3) at 160 pounds, and Jordan Anderson (17-4) at 220 pounds.
