80 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS CONTRIBUTION - Rosabelle (Schmidt) Johnson of Emmetsburg was recently recognized by the American Legion Auxiliary for 80 years of continued membership with the organization. In 1940, when Rosie was just 12 years old, she joined the American Legion Auxiliary as a junior volunteer. At that time, Rosie's mother, Katie Schmidt, served as president of the West Bend Auxiliary while her father, Charles, was a Legionnaire after having served in the Army during World War I. Through the years, Rosie has been actively involved in fundraising, from selling poppies for Veteran's Day to making posters for display in store windows on Memorial Day. Rosie was a lifelong member of the West Bend Auxiliary until their closing approximately eight years ago, at which time the Clinton branch invited her to join. Pictured above, Rosie holds the certificate that states, "Rosabelle Johnson has been a member in good standing of the American Legion Auxiliary continuously for the period of 80 years and be it further known that such record of consistent loyalty to the American Legion Auxiliary merits the honor of being cited as an outstanding contributor."
