The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks would have a strong showing on the court last week, winning three straight against Sioux Central (53-27), Estherville Lincoln Central (58-41), and Pocahontas Area (49-41).

"We knew heading into last week it was going to be tough for us," said Head Coach Annie Fiene. "We had three quality opponents in Sioux Central, Estherville, and Pocahontas. The girls came out and played really hard and executed our game plans well. I think we were a little tired come Friday but we battled until the end and made enough plays to come away with a hard fought victory."

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Lady E-Hawks would go on the road and dominate Sioux Central, 53-27. Exploding onto the court, the girls would maintain a solid lead throughout the first half, outscoring Sioux Central 30-17 by the break. A strong second half defensive performance and an offense firing on all cylinders would keep the Lady E-Hawks on top to win the game by 26 points.

Thursday's matchup at ELC would again see the Lady E-Hawks off to a solid start, controlling the ball in the first and second quarters. The ELC offense would find some rhythm at the start of the second half only to be stifled by an aggressive Emmetsburg defense.

Senior Molly Schany would score 28 points during the contest, hitting the 1,000 career point milestone. Schany scored three of four from the free throw line and sank a three-point shot.

On Friday, the Lady E-Hawks defeated Pocahontas Area, 49-41, in a home court matchup that turned into an exciting second half battle that saw an Emmetsburg lead dwindle to one point before the Lady E-Hawks pulled ahead in the final minutes to win by eight.

The wins bring the Lady E-Hawks to 11-3 on the season as they prepare to face Newell-Fonda at home on Tuesday night (tonight).

"We know we are facing our toughest challenge of the year against Newell Fonda," said Coach Fiene. "We will have to find a way to slow the game down as they really do a great job of turning up the tempo. Newell plays tremendous pressure defense all game. If we can take care of the ball and not have three minute spurts where we can't score, we can compete and make it a game."
