The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks would put up a tough fight but come up short during Wednesday's 60-67 loss to the Osage Green Devils at the Class 2A Region 2 Regional Final. The girls finish out the 2019-20 season at 17-6 overall.

"It was definitely not the outcome we had hoped for but I am extremely proud of how the girls battled not only in that regional final game but throughout the entire season," said Head Coach Anny Fiene.

E-HAWK PRIDE - Though the Osage Green Devils would keep senior Molly Schany contained to just six points throughout Emmetsburg’s regional finals battle, the senior finishes out the season with a career total of 1,173 points. Schany scored an average 18.1 points a game this season and, according to Head Coach Anny Fiene, has inspired many young athletes who will wear the black and gold in the future. -- Joseph Schany photo

The Lady E-Hawks struggled to put points on the board in the first half of play as the Green Devils dominated defensively and offensively, outscoring the girls 20-7 in the first quarter alone. However, from that deficit, Emmetsburg would battle back to enter the break down by eight, 29-21. The third quarter would see the girls get within four points, but Osage would continue their success at the net through the end of the game to take the win and earn a trip to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the state tournament.

"Osage had an answer to every big shot we made," said Coach Fiene. "It is very hard to beat a team that shoots the ball as well as Osage did. They connected on 12 three pointers at a 57% clip."

Osage would also contain Emmetsburg's leading scorer, Molly Schany, throughout the contest, holding the senior to just six points on the night and well below her average of around 20 points a game. Schany ends the season with an impressive 1,173 career points.

Junior Abbie Schany would lead the Lady E-Hawk charge, scoring a personal season-best 23 points against the Green Devils. with two three point hits, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Hailey Foxhoven, a senior, would put up 11 points on the night and nail both three point attempts, while fellow senior Lindsay Carter scored nine points, connecting three three's. Seniors Raven Brown and Gretchen Hofstad would each score seven and four points respectively, with Hofstad providing four assists for the Lady E-Hawks.

"We lose six seniors who have had a big impact on our program," said Coach Fiene. "I told the girls after the loss that you always want to leave a program better than it was when you started and those seniors can definitely say they did that. We have a lot of young ladies that are excited about this sport and that is because of how those seniors represented our program. We will miss them but I know they will go on and do great things."

As for next year, Coach Fiene is excited about her returning players and the future of the Lady E-Hawk basketball program.

"We have a great core group of athletes entering the 2020-21 season that will be willing to put in the time in the off-season to have the same goals that we had this year."
