RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Barbara Kay Ruehle of Ruthven is Tuesday, March 17, at 11a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Tom Summerfield will officiate.

The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Kay Ruehle, daughter of Ray and Marcia (Jarvis) Prew, was born Feb. 8, 1939 in Humboldt. She received her education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1957.

On May 15, 1957 Kay was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Ruehle at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. To this union four children were born.

Kay and Jerry farmed near Ruthven for many years before moving into Ruthven. Kay was a devoted, wife, mother, and grandmother and helped Jerry on the farm wherever she was needed.

She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven where she was active in Evening Circle and Ladies Aid. Kay loved to read and watch all types of sports. She always looked forward to times that she could spend with her friends and family.

Kay passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 at her home in Ruthven, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Marcia Prew and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Ruthven; her children, Becky Ruehle of Cedar Falls, Deb and Bill Fennelly of Ames, Greg and Kari Ruehle of Dodge City, KS, and Marcia Ruehle of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Dave) Grund, Angela (Collan) Traver, Nathan (Shelby) Forey, Billy (Lyndsey) Fennelly, Steven (Andrea) Fennelly, Grace Ruehle, and Kyle Ruehle; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
