Acts of Kindness

April 3, 2020
By Jane Whitmore , Emmetsburg News

There are so many acts of kindness with people pulling together during this time of crisis. It makes me proud to live in a close-knit, small, rural community. We know how to take care of one another.

When restaurants were given notification their only option was carry-out, the people responded. One area restaurant said they had easily as much weekend carry-out business as when they were open for dine-in. Coffee from our coffee shop has been available to health care workers at no cost, thanks to some very generous donations. There are quite a few people sewing medical face masks for use at nursing homes and personal use, too. Others are stepping up to lend a hand to those who truly cannot get out.

This time of isolation is a time of family bonding. With Spring weather here, there are many families out walking and riding bicycles. What was more fun than to be able to purchase a bucket of popcorn from the theatre on Sunday?

In this time of crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic, our area residents are stepping up even when they can't get out. A phone call or waving through a window is appreciated.
