Marian Cleo Evans, daughter of Christopher and Myrtle (Barrick) Barkve, was born March 9, 1942 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She began her education in country school near Cylinder and then attended Cylinder Community School, graduating in 1960.

Marian began working as a teller at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Emmetsburg following high school and remained there for over 47 years, before her retirement. While employed at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, Marian was active in planning and going on trips sponsored by the bank.

On July 12, 1970, Marian was united in marriage to Dale F. Evans at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with two children, Mark and Karla.

Marian was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she served as secretary for over 20 years. She was also a member of church circle. Marian was an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary for over 40 years and served on the Senior Center Board for many years.

While in Junior High, Marian began playing the alto saxophone, which she continued playing throughout her life. She participated in the Emmetsburg Municipal Band each summer, playing on the courthouse square and in Soper Park for summer concerts and 4th of July celebrations.

Marian enjoyed family vacations each year as well as all of the trips that she and Dale went on through the bank. Her family was very important to her and she cherished all the time they spent together.

Marian passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents; her half brother, Wilbur Barrick and his wife, Jean.

She is survived by her husband, Dale of Emmetsburg; her children, Mark and Nichole Evans of Emmetsburg, and Karla and David Lappe of Bancroft; her grandchildren, Zach Foxhoven, Emma Foxhoven, Mason Foxhoven, Payton Evans, Dylan Lappe, Drew Lappe, and Dawson Lappe; a niece, Jean Ringal and her husband, Richard of Milford; as well as other relatives and many friends.
