COVID-19 TESTING -- Drive-up COVID-19 test collection is available at Hughes Pharmacy in Emmetsburg. Newspaper editor Joe Schany is pictured accepting a test kit from the safety of his car. There is very little contact between the person handing the kit and the person taking the test. Test results will be sent to individuals. Visit DoINeedACovid19Test.com to view eligibility and schedule an appointment. For more information, turn to page 5 of The Democrat. --JWhitmore photo

Pharmacist Steve Hoyman explained the process. "To qualify, you go to the website DoINeedACovid19Test .com. If you qualify, you sign up for a location and an appointment time. Print out the voucher. There is also a video on how to do the test."

When a person comes to the test site, he/she should hold up the voucher and their driver's license for the technician to see. The technician will use cue cards advising the tester to roll down the window and how to proceed with the test. The tester has little to no contact with the technician.

The test results will be sent to the person taking the test, Hoyman said.

The government has contracted with the lab and with HealthMart Pharmacy to conduct the tests. There is no cost to be tested.

People recommended for testing include workers in nursing homes, those who may have been exposed, and for pre-op testing.

"We are hoping that by having this test site, it may set us up for being among the first to provide a vaccine when it becomes available," said Steve Hoyman.

The drive-up COVID-19 test site at Hughes Pharmacy is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
