Area cross country runners traveled to Sioux Rapids on Thursday, Sept. 17, competing in the Sioux Central Chris Smith Invitational.
The Emmetsburg varsity girls would finish seventh place overall with 159 points and an average time of 22:37, while the boys would earn eighth place overall with 188 points and a 19:23 average time.
"We knew going into this meet that the competition level was going to be fierce," said Head Coach Katie Schmitt. "There are several big, ranked teams that run at this meet, so we knew we needed to come out strong. The course in Sioux Rapids has a brutal finish with several hills going both down and up. The team really pushed through to be able to give a strong finish."
Izzy Householder and Isabel Doyle would be medalists for the E-Hawk girls, finishing in 10th and 22nd place respectively.
"This is two Top 10 finishes in a row for Izzy," said Schmitt. "She also set a new personal record time, running a 20:42."
The E-Hawk boys would see Isaac Janssen finish 17th and Fabian Bowman earn 23rd overall, both receiving medals.
"We had a great start with our top three runners clocking a 5:30 first mile," said Schmitt. "Isaac and Fabian were able to hold onto one of those top medalist positions and finished 17th and 23rd overall, while Cade Jacobson was closely behind coming in at 29th."
The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire (GTRA) Titan boys would finish in 13th place overall, with a strong performance from Aiden Egertson, who would earn 41st in 19:27.
West Bend-Mallard would also have harriers competing individually, with Julia Fehr earning a 16th place overall finish for the Wolverine girls in a time of 21:19.
The area harriers will have competed in Humboldt yesterday.
"We've been getting some tough practices in and are ready for the competition," said Schmitt.
