Funeral service for Lucille W. Anderson was held Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock officiated.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Wilhelmina (Johnson) Anderson, daughter of Gerhard and Sophie Marie (Stein) Johnson, was born July 7, 1929 in Jolley, IA. She was baptized at Emanuel - St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, and later confirmed on March 29, 1942. Lucille began her education in country school, Butler #9, near Jolley and then attended and graduated from Jolley Consolidated High School.
On Nov. 23, 1952 Lucille was united in marriage to Lloyd Anderson at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. They would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary on the day of Lucille’s funeral service. In 1954 they were blessed with twins, Garwin and Connie.
Lucille and Lloyd farmed near Curlew for many years. Lucille loved being outdoors, helping with the field work and livestock. She always maintained a large garden each year and enjoyed caring for her flowers.
Lucille and Lloyd enjoyed going to area dances and even after Lloyd’s death Lucille continued her love of music and was always ready to attend a dance when the opportunity arose. Lucille also liked camping at various campgrounds, especially Cutty’s, going fishing, taking day trips to sight see, attending the Iowa State Fair and collecting ceramic birds, butterflies and lighthouses. She loved traveling to Las Vegas and staying at The Bellagio. Lucille’s family was very important to her and she cherished any chance she had to spend time with them.
Lucille was a faithful and devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. She looked forward to the Scandinavian Tea and helping wherever she was needed.
Lucille passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Sophie Johnson; her husband, Lloyd on Oct. 7, 1984; her daughter, Connie Yonker on Sept. 16, 2022; a brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” and Donna Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Lela Anderson; and a nephew, Calvin Anderson.
She is survived by her son, Garwin Anderson of Curlew; son-in-law, Dan Yonker of West Boro, MO; grandchildren, Stephanie (Cary) Lai of Redwood City, CA, Michelle Flores of Papillion, NE, Daniel Yonker of Rogers, AR, and Dustin (Lisa) Yonker of West Fargo, ND; great grandchildren, Taliya Flores, Serena and Mila Lai , Cameron and Jacob Yonker; sister-in-law, Beulah Pingle of Spirit Lake; a niece, Suzanne Johnson of Sac City; as well as other relatives and friends.
