Funeral service for Mildred Thorsbakken of Emmetsburg is Wednesday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock will officiate.

Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home, Emmetsburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mildred Nurine Thorsbakken, daughter of Henry Nichol and Myrtle Irene (Fosnaugh) Schaffer, was born Oct. 5, 1938 in Algona. She graduated from Wesley High School in Wesley in 1957.

In 1958 Mildred was united in marriage to Roger Thorsbakken at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. They were blessed with four children.

Mildred was employed by the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg where she worked as the food supervisor for twenty eight years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Mildred enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Euchre, Pinochle and 500. She also loved going fishing and crocheting.

Mildred passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Myrtle Schaffer; her husband, Roger; siblings, Fern Thompson, Robert “Bob” Schaffer, Alice Shipler, Richard “Jack” Schaffer and Roxie Mogler-Matthews.

She is survived by her children, Larry Thorsbakken of Pocahontas, Mark Thorsbakken of Emmetsburg, Cynthia Crowe of Lafayette, CO, and Jeanine Thorsbakken of Frederick, CO; 11 grand- children; 16 great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
