Pony Express Back on the Trail


Palo Alto County Pony Express will be back on the trail this Friday, April 2. Riders will canvass communities throughout the county, collecting donations to assist Iowans with disabilities.

The Good Friday gets an early start in Palo Alto County. Riders will meet in Mallard before heading out to area communities. Part of this group will begin the relay ride to Camp Sunnyside. This is called Ride 10.

Palo Alto County Pony Express riders will head to Ayrshire to collect donations, while another group will head to Curlew. This group then travels to Ruthven to parade through town collecting donations.

From Ruthven, the horse riders will ride mile by mile into Emmetsburg. They will meet up with the group from Graettinger at the rive-mile corner.

The mile-by-mile ride continues into Emmetsburg, with all groups gathering at the edge of town.

Palo Alto County Pony Express riders will parade through Emmetsburg, with flags flying, at noon on Friday. Riders will congregate on Main and Broadway, collecting donations from drivers and pedestrians. From Emmetsburg, riders will go to Cylinder and Whittemore on horseback. For most riders, this years ride will conclude at the Woodward Ballroom. The Ride 10 group will proceed to Jefferson.
