RUTHVEN -- Graveside service for Robert M. Broadie was held Friday, Nov. 13, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven. The Rev. Lynn Potter officiated.

Military rites were conducted by members of American Legion Post #33, Ruthven.

Robert Marshall Broadie, son of Fred W. and Alta (Huffman) Broadie, was born May 30, 1926 in Clay County, Iowa, near Ruthven. He received his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven High School. While in school Bob loved playing baseball and basketball.

Bob enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He entered into service on April 17, 1944 and earned the rank of Radioman 3rd Class during his time in the Navy. Bob was honorably discharged on May 16, 1946 when he returned to Ruthven.

On June 23, 1947 Bob was united in marriage to Noreen Mildred Brallier in Windom, MN. They made their home near Ruthven where they farmed. They were blessed with four children.

Bob enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cards and having coffee with his friends at the little store. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life, hunting deer, geese, and pheasant. Bob was very partial to his Red Bone coonhounds that he raised, several of them champion dogs. He was an avid Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. He was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post #33 and the Red Bone Breeders Organization.

Bob passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alta Broadie; a sister, Ruth Boyd; and great grandson, James Robert.

He is survived by his children, David "Fred" Broadie, Deanna (Gary) Grange, Debra (Terry) Kunzmann and Joseph (Lu) Broadie, all of Ruthven; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.
