Funeral service for former Emmetsburg resident C. Jeanne Jones of Grimes was held Friday, Sept. 16, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Celebrant was the Rev. Bill Schreiber.
Interment was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Charlotte Jeanne Jones, daughter of Carl Peter Behrendsen, Sr. and Leona Mae Lamphaman Folk, was born Jan. 23, 1927 on a farm NE of Ruthven. The seventh of eight children, Jeanne attended a country school and graduated in 1945 from Ruthven High School.
Following high school Jeanne worked at Sally’s Food Store in Ruthven before moving to Mason City where she worked in a small burger joint. It was in Mason City where she answered a knock on the door and opened it to find Paul Jones, a young man she had danced with three times at a church dance in a quonset hut in Emmetsburg.
On Sept. 11, 1950, Jeanne was united in marriage to Paul Raymond Jones at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. To this union four children were born.
During her life in Emmetsburg, Jeanne worked for 10 years at the J. C. Penney store, another 10 years for Berkeley and Company, five years at GTE and various other local businesses. After retirement, she and Paul enjoyed being “snowbirds” in Florida and Arizona for over 25 years. Together they visited 48 states. Jeanne loved golf, bowling, dancing, and playing cards. Bridge was her specialty. She was a member of the same Bridge group for over 50 years and was the coordinator of the PACH card marathon for many years. Never one to sit still, she was always finding something to do for herself or for others.
Jeanne loved to visit with people, always interested in what was going on in your life. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride. Her sense of humor and sometimes bawdy jokes are remembered by all who knew her. Jeanne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Palo Alto Hospital Auxiliary, St. Pat’s Association, the Emmetsburg Golf and Country Club and the Red Hat Society in both Emmetsburg and Arizona.
Jeanne passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Robin Jeanne, her son Paul Carl; her parents and siblings, Gladys, Ruby, Molly, Carl Jr., Orville, Bette and Jerry; Paul’s parents, Charlie and Lenora and his siblings Joe, Leo and Mary.
She is survived by her daughters, Danna (Al) Nall of Casa Grande AZ, and Pat (Ron) Kelly of Urbandale; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Farrell of Mulberry, FL, as well as many other relatives and friends.
