Graveside Service for Dale A Backstrom, 63, will be held September 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew, Iowa. Rev Paul Schulz will officiate.
Military Gravesite Rites will be performed by the American Legion Post #345 from Mallard, Iowa and the U.S. Army Honor Guard
Dale Alan Backstrom, son of Dean and Delores (Sage) Backstrom, was born October 12, 1959 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He received his education in Mallard, graduating from Mallard High School in 1978.
In 1979 Dale enlisted in the United States Army, serving until he was honorably discharged.
Dale and Gabriele Uhrig were united in marriage and were blessed with two sons, William and Michael. Dale later married Amy Nellist on April 11, 1992 in Sioux City, Iowa. They were the parents of Samantha, Jesse and Bailey.
Dale was employed as a FedEx Driver in the Ames and Story county areas. Dale looked forward to annual family vacation in Okoboji each summer. He loved to sing karaoke and play Bingo. After Dale became a grandpa, he looked forward to every chance he had to spend time with his grandchildren.
Dale passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa, at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean; an infant son, William Josef; and a brother, Dennis Backstrom.
He is survived by his children, Michael Dean Backstrom of Germany, Samantha Rae Nellist of Fargo, North Dakota, Jesse Stewart Backstrom of Nevada, Iowa and Bailey Marie Backstrom of Nevada, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dante Ernest, Raegan Lynn, Eleanor Rose and Wesson Dale; his mother, Delores Shimon of Pocahontas, Iowa; a sister, Debra (Randy) Hansch of Monroe, Iowa; sister-in-law, Cathy Backstrom of Mallard, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
