A Mass of Christian Burial for Larry Joyce, 72 of Emmetsburg, will be held on Wednesday, (May 29th) at 10:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday (May 28th) at Holy Family Catholic Church with a vigil service being held at 6:30 pm. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.
Larry Joseph Joyce, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 27, 1951, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Joseph “Bud” and Corneal (O’Leary) Joyce, Larry was åa man of many talents and boundless energy who touched the lives of many.
Larry married the love of his life, Bernadette Kliegl, on September 11, 1970, at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Their union was blessed with four children: Pat Joyce (Tina), Andy Joyce (Tanya), Teresa Alesch (Cody), and Kari Mueller (Matt). Larry’s legacy extends to his eleven cherished grandchildren: Kayla Thilges (Andrew), John Joyce (Maddie), Molly and Michael Joyce, Connor Joyce (Lauren), Keegan and Calista Joyce, Sacha and Teague Alesch, and Kaiden and Lucas Mueller. He also rejoiced in the arrival of his great-grandson, Jax Patrick Thilges.
A true jack of all trades, Larry’s skills spanned automotive, craftsmanship, plumbing and heating, and electrical work. He was a natural problem solver, adept at fixing anything from car dents to water
pumps and house fixtures. His knack for singing and his talent as a bat catcher were well-known among family and friends. Larry’s gift for gab made him a familiar and beloved figure as he drove around town, always ready for a chat. He also enjoyed fishing and boat rides, finding peace and joy on the water.
Larry was also a passionate sports enthusiast and dedicated youth sports coach to his children. Known for his fervent critiques of referees, Larry’s spirited discussions and memorable outbursts when he disagreed with calls became the stuff of a local legend. Above all, he took immense pride in watching his grandchildren excel in their pursuits, celebrating their every achievement with joy and pride.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, an adoring grandfather, and a doting great-grandfather. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, community, and unwavering love for his family.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Joseph Kliegl.Rest in peace, Larry. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of those you loved and who loved you.
