Lyle Stork, son of Erwin and Collette (Poeppe) Stork, was born on September 19, 1939 in Carroll Iowa. His family eventually moved to a farm near Emmetsburg. Lyle received his education at Emmetsburg Catholic School, graduating in 1957. While in high school, Lyle enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.
Lyle, also known as “Ozzie” to his friends, had a big laugh and an even bigger heart. Ozzie was a legend at the meat packing plant where he worked for many years in Spencer. He was known as a hard worker and respected by his fellow employees and friends. However, he didn’t care to eat beef!
Ozzie enjoyed hunting, fishing and getting into trouble with his brothers. When he’d visit his parents, he’d come in, sweetly tease his mom saying,”I’m a honky tonk man and I don’t give a damn!” His mom would simply reply, “Oh, Lyle!” Then he would laugh and say, “You know I love you, mama.”
He loved riding motorcycles and went to Sturgis for several years. Lyle had a passion for history, antiques and collecting old knives, guns and other odd things he would find. He would do research on many of the items he collected. He was constantly reading and learning.
Lyle adored his parents, loved his brothers and was a loyal friend. He was loved dearly by his two nieces whom he would make giggle when they were little.
Lyle passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2025 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Collette (Poeppe) Stork.
He is survived by his brothers, Denis and Leon; two nieces, Tawnya (Kevin) and Maria (Lucas); 2 great nephews, Lee and Eli; a great niece, Isabel; as well as other relatives and many friends.
We all loved Lyle dearly and will miss him always.
