Funeral service for 99 year old Milton H Hough were held on August 11,2023 at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Pastor Jeff Grieger Officiated. Inurnment was at Rush Lake Cemetery in Mallard, Iowa.
Milton “Milt” Herbert Hough, son of Elmer and Marvel (Knighton) Hough, was born May 5, 1924, in Mallard, Iowa. He received his education in Mallard, Iowa, graduating from Mallard High School in 1942. Following high school Milt was inducted into the United States Army on February 22, 1943. He was stationed in New Guinea, The Philippines, and Japan while serving during World War II until he was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946.
After returning home, Milt worked as a plumber until his retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #345 in Mallard.
On June 1, 1947, Milt was united in marriage to June Stroup in Mallard. The were blessed with two sons.
Milt was a family man and loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play in any and all sporting events. Through the years, he hardly missed a ball game. With both of his sons being coaches, he supported all their teams and even tried to help them with their coaching. Milt also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He went on several fishing trips with his family.
Milt passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his wife; June Hough; parents, Elmer and Marvel; daughter-in-law, Cathy Hough; great-grandchild, Janna Hough; seven brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his two sons, Randy (Dianne) Hough of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Rod (Jeanine) Hough of Graettinger, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jason (Josie) Hough, Kelly (Tim) Swanson, Mike Hough, Jeanna (Javier) Gutierrez, Kyle (Kristi) Hough, Todd (Jenny) Hough, and Lucas (Kendra) Hough; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Hockert of Clive, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
