Funeral services for Paul Dietrich, Sr. will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa
Interment is at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Paul William Dietrich, Sr. was born in Rodman, Iowa on June 5, 1931, to Gustav and Florentina (Richter) Dietrich. In 1938 they moved to Freedom Township. Paul graduated from Cylinder High School in 1949.
Paul was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Bruhn on June 5, 1952. God blessed this union with three children, eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Paul was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War. Paul and Ruth farmed together for 60 years. Paul enjoyed playing fast pitch softball. He retired from playing ball when he began playing softball against his adult sons. Paul also enjoyed antique tractor rides.
Paul passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Emmetsburg Care Center, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Florentina Dietrich; his wife, Ruth; siblings, Fred Lenz, Carl Lenz, Ernie Lenz, Wally Lenz, Eddie Lenz and Liz Chapman.
He is survived by his children, Paul (Barb) Dietrich, Jr. of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Diane (Rick) Blair of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Alan (Louanne) Dietrich of Blue Eye, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Rev. Chadric (Alyson) Dietrich, Matthew (Andrea) Dietrich, Aaron (Laura) Dietrich, Stephanie (Chris) Rodriguez, John (Kristi) Blair, Nathan (Nicole) Blair, Levi Dietrich, and Jordan (Travis) Peterson; fifteen great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
