Funeral service for Ted Strohman was held Monday, March 27 at First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Lana Williams was the officiant. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg.
Ted Strohman, son of Elmer and Evelyn (Lundeen) Strohman, was born March 10, 1945 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in the Emmetsburg School system. While growing up Ted had the joy of spending a lot of time with his Grandma Tillie, who he loved dearly.
On Jan. 26, 1964 Ted was united in marriage to Linda Frink at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Ted and Linda were blessed with five children and they had the joy of raising a foster son.
Ted worked as a concrete finisher for many years. When he had time he loved to go hunting and fishing, teaching his children the joy of the outdoors and how to hunt and fish. He had a great interest in guns and was always on the look out at flea markets for a good buy on a gun. Ted’s enthusiasm for going to flea markets was more on “making the deal” than actually looking for something to buy.
Ted took his family camping in the summer. He made sure his kids were in church each Sunday and they knew they had better behave. Ted had a large garden each year, raising potatoes as well as other vegetables. He was a great cook, making many delicious meals for his family. At the end of the week, Ted always used everything that was left over to make soup. Most of his family found this to be a tasty meal but some did not.
After retiring, Ted cherished any time that he could care for his grandchildren. He loved taking them fishing or asparagus hunting. The adventures he took them on were priceless and they will never forget them.
Ted passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Evelyn Strohman; his siblings, John Strohman in infancy, Jean Thompson, Chuck Strohman, and Gary Strohman; a grandson, Christian Strohman; dear family friend, Amy Frields.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his children, Robert Strohman of Emmetsburg, John (Stacey) Strohman of Emmetsburg, Mark (Angie) Strohman of Mallard, Heather Strohman of Emmetsburg, Troy (Sarah) Strohman of Emmetsburg; his foster son, Jim Sobkoweak of Fonda; and his best friend and companion, Oscar (his dog); his grandchildren, Zachary Strohman, (Arun Sethuraman), Christian Strohman (deceased), Chelsea Strohman, Betty Sue Strohman (Kody Frauen), Donald Strohman, Dayton Strohman, Isaac Strohman, Hunter Strohman, Tannya Strohman, Savannah Strohman, and Kinser (Evan) Miller; one great granddaughter, Sofia Miller; his brother, Roger (Marcie) Strohman of Emmetsburg; very special family friends, Kerry Frields, Amanda and Ethan Beurskens and their children Coraline and Maddie, Austin Lietz, Jacob Frields, Jenna Frields and Mike Densmore; as well as other relatives and friends.
