Jane Marie Stevens, daughter of Harold and Hazel (Michaels) Lowman, was born April 13, 1941, in Graettinger, Iowa. She received her education in Rodman, graduating from Rodman High School.

On June 4, 1961, Jane was united in marriage to Jim Stevens at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with four children.

Jane worked as a waitress for a few years and then became a daycare provider, which she operated out of her home.  Jane served many families in the area, caring for their children. She was also the office manager at Stevens Plumbing and Heating and helped run the business.  She did all of the bookkeeping without the use of a computer.  With all of the activity between daycare, caring for her own family and helping with their business, Jane still found time to take in laundry and ironing which she thoroughly enjoyed.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg where she was active in Church Circle. Jane was also a volunteer for Hospice, serving for 39 years. She was a member of Pythian Sisters and TOPS.

Jane loved playing card games, board games, and going to garage sales. She was sweet and soft spoken, but had a way of finding just the right amount of enthusiasm to get things accomplished.  When recycling became an option, Jane participated wholeheartedly.  She also did composting, utilizing the compost in her gardens. Jane  cherished her family and had the joy of celebrating 62 years of marriage to Jim.
