A funeral service for Linda Umbrell of Emmetsburg will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, May 13, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

The funeral will be live streamed on Bethany Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Interment will be in South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger. Masks are required at the funeral. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Kaye Umbrell was born July 22, 1948 in Estherville, the daughter of LeRoy and Charlotte (McDonald) Westfall. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1967.

On Jan. 6, 1968, she was united in marriage to Danny Umbrell at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. She and Danny rode the same bus, dated from 5th grade on and often sat next to each other in all classes.

Linda had a variety of work experiences. In her younger years she worked at the Redwood Cafe, and at Sidles Young Fashions in the children’s clothing store from 1978 to 1985. In 1985, she worked on the line assembly at SNC Manufacturing. Some part time work experiences Linda had were reading meters for Palo Alto County, stuffed inserts in newspapers for Emmetsburg Publishing, delivered Spencer Shopper, Exercise Technician for Curves for Women, and was the janitor for Bethany Lutheran Church. Linda and Danny ran a ceramic shop for years while they lived on the farm. Her favorite was Umbrell Produce vegetables and baked goods in the square.

Linda was very active in her church. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Linda was the past president of WELCA Women’s Group, Communion Assistant, a member of the Altar Guild, and was a Sunday school teacher. Linda was also a 4-H Leader for 20 years, a Junior 4-H leader, a Brownie Leader, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed attending craft shows, gardening, baking, canning, and collecting blue fenton. Linda loved spending time with her family and dancing with her grandchildren. She also loved her cat Precious. She and Danny also enjoyed their Caribbean and Hawaii cruise.

Linda died on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She was 72.

Linda is survived by her husband, Danny Umbrell of Emmetsburg; children, Danny (Stacey) Umbrell Jr. of Sergeant Bluff, and Debra (David) Zanfes of Cherokee; five grandchildren: Marysa Umbrell, Dean Umbrell, Molly Umbrell, Morgan Lin Zanfes, and Mackenzie Lin Zanfes; two great-grandchildren, Addelyn and Mason; sister, Betty (Mike) Naig of Emmetsburg; aunt, Jean Westfall of Emmetsburg; niece. Michelle Theesfeld; nephews, Chris Naig and Nate Kassel; and many cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, LeRoy Westfall Jr.; sister, Diana Kassel; grandsons, Daniel Umbrell, Mitchell David Zanfes, Jacob John Zanfes, and baby Zanfes; and nephew, Tim Naig.
