Lois Voigt was born Dec. 29, 1934 to Gerhard and Edna (Westfall) Hantelman and died after a lengthy battle with dementia on Dec. 7, 2022 at the Titonka Care Home. Lois was united in marriage to Merle Voigt on Sept. 4, 1949 and was married for 73 years. She was a life-long resident of Fenton.
Services are pending. A graveside memorial service at the Fenton Cemetery will be held in the spring. More details will be published as they are confirmed.
Lois had a unique life – always involved in First United Methodist church activities and local women’s organizations. She provided a safe haven for family and enjoyed entertaining family get togethers, avidly acquired antiques, and for a time, made quilts. When the children were young, she sewed their clothes and made outfits for the girl’s dolls. Playing cards with family and friends was a happy pastime. Lois worked outside of the home for brief periods of time but was a full-time bookkeeper for Merle’s Phillips 66 business. Lois maintained a 59 year pen pal relationship with Joan Gibbons from Australia. Joan and her husband visited Lois and Merle and traveled around the country with them. Lois was always ready for travel but the opportunities were few and far between. The last few years were rough for Lois, family and friends as her dementia deepened.
Survivors include children -Teresa Bomhoff, Terri Henriksen, Val Cole, and Vance Voigt (Glenda). Grandchildren – Torrey Holst, Tyson Bomhoff (Janet), Jenny Bengs (Tim), Tessa Schmidt (Tracy), Ryan Voigt and Alexandra Bomhoff. There are 6 great grandchildren – Cayden Holst, Scarlett Bomhoff, Colten Bengs, Hunter Bengs, Joey Thompson and Dakota Thompson and 3 great great grandchildren – Finnegan Bengs, Emmalyne Lovejoy and Liam Thompson.
Those who passed before Lois are her husband, Merle, her parents Gerhard and Edna, sister Eunice, brother Paul, 2 grandchildren Sara and Torrey’s sister, and a host of friends and family.
