A Celebration of Marvin's Life will be 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6 at the Spring Hills Country Club. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home in Mallard.

The son of William Schnieders and Alice (Grethen) Schnieders, he was born September 6, 1943 in Hartington, Nebraska. In 1947, his family moved to a farm near Mallard, Iowa where he grew up with his sisters, Odette, Sidonia, Carol and Jeannette. He attended Mallard Catholic School through eighth grade, and graduated from Mallard High School in 1961. He remained a faithful Catholic, and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Mallard.

Marvin was drafted into the US Army in 1965 and was stationed in Korea for 13 months, where he served in the honor guard. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Mallard in 1966. He was proud of his military service, and was active in the Mallard American Legion.

He married Kaye Perry in 1969 and settled on the Schnieders family farm where they raised three children: Kris, Amy, and Carrie. They were married for 28 years, and remained friends throughout his life. Marvin loved being a farmer, particularly raising hogs and cattle. He strived for fields with straight rows and no weeds.  He was proud to call the family farm home for his entire life.

After retirement, Marvin spent 8 winters in Texas with his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and George Rino. He drove to Texas with his dog Sparky, each year taking a different route to explore the southern and western states. He was also an avid reader, especially western novels.

Marvin was quite the conversationalist! A friendly, talkative man who never met a stranger. You never had to wonder what he was thinking - he would tell you, regardless of how inappropriate. He loved shooting and hunting, and hosted friends from near and far to pheasant hunt on his farm.

He will be greatly missed by his children Kris Dykstra of Waukee, IA; Amy (George) Rino of Phoenix, AZ, and Carrie (Robert) Shidla of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Payton and Leo; former wife and friend, Kaye Perry; sisters Odette Rettenmaier, Carol Arnold and Jeanette Schnieders; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Schnieders; sister Sidonia Adams; brothers-in-law Ron Adams, Chuck Arnold, and Delwin Rettenmaier; and nephew Rodman Adams.
