RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Eldon B. Rouse of Ayrshire was held Saturday, Nov. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Kris Hackbart officiated.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Silver Lake Cemetery in Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Eldon Bertice Rouse, son of Bertice and Olga (Prather) Rouse, was born Nov. 16, 1930, near Ayrshire. He received his education and graduated from Silver Lake Consolidated High School in Ayrshire.
On Nov. 18, 1956, Eldon was united in marriage to Daisy Higbie at the Methodist Church in Estherville. Together, they raised seven children.
Eldon was a farmer in Ayrshire, drove truck for Artsway, worked at Ayrshire Feed and Farm Supply, Spencer Food’s plant, and Shopper’s Supply. During retirement, he worked at the Clay County Fairgrounds for 15 years.
He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire until it closed. Eldon was also a volunteer member of the Ayrshire Fire Department.
Eldon was always a hard worker and enjoyed caring for his garden, attending to his animals and livestock, being in the field, and doing whatever needed to be done. He also enjoyed reading, socializing, and spending time with his family.
Eldon passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Spencer, at the age of 91 years and 364 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy; parents, Bertice and Olga; step-mother, Tillie Rouse; brothers, Vernon and Alvin; sisters, Ellen and Wilma; son-in-law, Lloyd; and three grandchildren, Joshua, Joey, and Joni.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (Curt) Chown of Charleston, SC; David Rouse of California; Karen Johnson of Coralville; Roger (Delana) Rouse of Maurice, LA; Jim (Roni) Rouse of Monroe, IA; Kimberly (Tim) Stoever of Spencer; Kelley (Kelly) Krick of South Orange, NJ; daughter-in-law, Jean Swenson of Spencer; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
