A Mass of Christian Burial for 80 year old Patricia “Patty” Bisenius was held on November 7, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The Concelebrants were Rev. Paul Kelly and Msgr. Michael Sernett.

Interment is at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Patricia “Patty” Susan (Stoffel) Bisenius was born on July 2, 1943 in Emmetsburg, IA. She is the daughter of Tony and Susie (Moyer) Stoffel. A life long resident of Emmetsburg. She graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School as a member of the class of 1961.

On August 12, 1967, Patty was united in marriage to Bert Bisenius at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. With this union, she gained four beautiful children Shelly, Pat, Tom and Don who brought her unimaginable joy. Many years later and several attempts later, Patty and Bert were blessed with two more amazing children, Renee and John.

During her life, she worked for the Palo Alto County Hospital for six years before beginning work in the county assessor’s office for over 30 years. While working there, she gained very fast and close friends who would become cherished as family.

Patty was a faithful member and devout supporter of the Holy Family Parish. She received all of her sacraments at the Assumption Church in Emmetsburg. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and she volunteered in the parish office for many years counting collections.

Patty’s greatest joy in life was undoubtedly her family. Her warm and inviting disposition welcomed anyone and everyone. She loved cooking as long as she had family and friends to cook for, her table was never empty. Holiday baking was her favorite, and she never failed to send goodie boxes baked with love to all her children. She also loved music and movies, instilling this in the younger generation as often as she could.

Patty enjoyed doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles, playing Solitaire on the computer.  She was always ready for a game of “500” with her friends or family or to watch a good movie or crime drama.  She looked forward to her coffee and Rosary clubs and was never opposed to taking time out for a nap.

She passed away at the age of 80 at Palo Alto County Hospital on November 3, 2023. In her final hours, she was surrounded by the love of her family both in her room and from coast to coast. They were able to sing and pray and laugh the whole day. Three minutes after midnight, and not be confused with November second, she was ushered into her reunion with Jesus and her family by her two granddaughters softly singing a song, Sov Gott (Sleep Well), to her while she took her last breaths.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, mentioned above; an infant son and a grandson, Joey. She is survived by her children, Renee (Shannon) Iverson of Emmetsburg, IA,  John (Alyssa) Bisenius of Waukee, IA,  Shelly (Rick) Creger of Cleveland, OH, Pat Bisenius (Anna - deceased) of St. Benedict, IA, Tom Bisenius (Deb) of Spokane, WA, Don Bisenius (Marcia) of Alexandria, VA, and 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Elaine Flint of Emmetsburg, IA,  Mary Ford of Delaware, OH, and one brother Eldon Stoffel of Emmetsburg, IA.

Patty’s family and friends would like to wholeheartedly thank you for your thoughts and gifts and consideration. You are invited to a time of fellowship and luncheon at the Holy Family Parish Center following the service at the Cemetery.
